Reading Lists

The Borger Middle School Library is a member of the Texas Library Association (TLA).  The TLA was established in 1902 and is the largest state library association in the United States.

Borger Middle School believes in the power of reading and supports two of the TLA's major programs:  The Texas Bluebonnet Award and the Lonestar Reading Lists.  The following are a description of each program along with website reference information.

  • The Texas Bluebonnet Award (TBA) reading program was established in 1979 to encourage Texas children to read more books, explore a variety of current books, develop powers of discrimination, and identify their favorite books. The award process provides librarians, teachers, parents, and writers with insight into young students' reading preferences. It further affords an opportunity to honor and encourage imaginative authors who create books with high appeal to children.

  • The Texas Lone Star Reading List is a recommended reading list developed by public and school librarians from the Young Adult Round Table.  The purpose of the list is to encourage students in grads 6, 7, or 8 to explore a variety of current books.  The Lone Star List is intended for recreational reading, not to support a specific curriculum.
